Christmas, the well-publicised most wonderful time of the year and the most popular time to have a photoshoot!

For five years I have been offering Christmas photography, with families returning each year to continue to make memories and new families beginning to make theirs. Christmas photography is a tradition for many and a chance to wear silly hats, reindeer ears, matching pyjamas, funky onesies and snuggly Christmas jumpers.

Why do people invest in Christmas photography? To create memories that will last forever – to keep the magic alive for the little ones (and the big ones too) – to capture children growing each year and to share photos with family and friends. Many of my clients use their digital photos to create Christmas cards and gifts for their friends and family. There is no better gift for a Grandparent than a photo of their Grandchildren.

There is little stress when it comes to photographing children for Christmas as they are excited and captivated by the new and festive atmosphere. This allows me to capture pure authenticity. Christmas photography allows me to be creative and by capturing candid photos of families the camera portrays heart-warming moments to cherish.

During November and the beginning of December the studio is only open for Christmas photography. Each year I have different themed backdrops and props to allow my clients to continue making memories in new ways. In 2021, over the duration of two weeks, I hit a new record of undertaking 73 Christmas photoshoots. This is the busiest time of year and continues to become busier.

To make the most of your Christmas photoshoot follow my top 5 tips…

  1. Have your children ready to be photographed. When they enter the studio, they are not going to want to be disturbed by an outfit change. Trying to change a baby or small child under duress can change the entire atmosphere of the photoshoot.
  2. Ensure you don’t book a time when your baby or toddler will need a nap. A tired little one is likely to not want to cooperate.
  3. Bring your children fed. Some photography slots may run over lunchtime, ensure you offer additional snacks to keep the ‘hangry’ ones at bay.
  4. If you child is shy, please bring a toy/blanket, something of security value for them to make them feel at ease. Don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself or the children. This is a fun experience, so relax and your children will relax too.
  5. If you are bringing a dog, please ensure they have been walked shortly before your photoshoot and bring their favourite snack.
