Newborn photography is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create wonderful memories as your baby will change quickly. It’s a magical experience capturing tiny toes and getting those beautiful sleepy photos.
The session will be led by your baby, nothing is rushed, and we will stop for feeds, nappy changes, and to comfort baby when needed. Much of the session will be soothing your baby and making sure they are comfortable in their poses. I will handle the baby most of the time but will need assistance during photographing with props to ensure your baby is safe at all times.
I have many unique props, backdrops, wraps, lovely outfits, hats and hair accessories for you to choose from. The studio will be lovely and warm to keep baby feeling cosy, so it is a good idea for parents to wear layers.
Parents, siblings and even the family dog are welcome to be photographed with your newborn. Creating memories is my favourite thing to do and I absolutely love babies!

What do you need to bring?
- Lots of nappies and wipes
- Extra milk to soothe baby
- Oils or creams for baby’s skin
- A dummy if using
- A blanket and muslin square
- Any outfits you want the baby photographed in (please do not dress the baby in this on arrival)
- Outfits for yourself and siblings to be photographed in (please do not dress in these outfits)
- Any sentimental items such as, wedding rings, a cuddly toy etc.
- Slippers or socks (the studio is a shoe free zone)
- I have a selection of toys and books in the studio, but if you are bringing a sibling please feel free to bring something to keep them entertained
- You are welcome to bring snacks and drinks
– TOP TIP –
Try to keep your newborn stimulated before coming to the photoshoot to tire them out, this will hopefully allow us to get lovely sleepy poses. How do you do this? Talk to your baby making lots of eye contact, walk your baby around the room stimulating them with lights and noises. It isn’t always possible, just try your best!

Choosing your props
There are so many lovely props to choose from!
If you have booked the Gold package you need to select 3 props for your session.
If you have booked the Silver package you need to select 2 props for your session.
Please email me your prop selection no later than 48 hours before your photoshoot date.
FAQ
What age range does Newborn photography cover?
The key to having a successful newborn photo shoot and achieving ‘sleepy, curled up poses’ (posed photos) is to have me photograph your newborn within the first two weeks of being born. Newborns tend to sleep less and are difficult to ‘curl up’ and pose once they reach three weeks. Days 7 – 14 are the most ideal time to photograph your newborn.
I am still able to capture beautiful images of newborns older than 2 weeks, I have had many babies older than this in the studio so please do not worry if your baby is not under 14 days at their photoshoot.
How far in advance should I book my session?
I would recommend that you book your newborn photography session after your 20-week scan. The first step is to contact me to check I have availability around your due date. My diary fills up quickly so it’s best to get in touch and book as soon as your able to. If your baby has already arrived, please still get in touch as I sometimes have last minute availability.
Can parents and siblings be photographed with the baby too?
Absolutely! I love to capture portraits of new mums and dads with their newborn baby. Siblings are welcome to be photographed with baby too, and capturing you all together is wonderful; however, you might want to arrange a family member to collect siblings after they have had their photographs taken. As newborn sessions can last 3-4 hours this can be boring for toddlers to sit through. If you have a dog, they are welcome too!
What do I need to bring?
If you have chosen to use a dummy, please bring at least three with you, a dummy really helps to soothe a baby. If you are not planning on using a dummy, you can still bring one just for the photoshoot. Please bring all the necessities for feeding, changing etc. ensuring you have lots of nappies and bottles if you are not breastfeeding. During your session you will have plenty of time for feeding and changing, there will be no rushing and the baby will lead the session. If you are bringing a toddler, please ensure you bring something to entertain them such as, a tablet, favourite toy (no colouring please). I have books and toys in the studio which they are welcome to use too. The session can be long so please bring snacks with you, I have soft drinks available .
What if my baby doesn’t settle?
Every baby is different! There is no guarantee on any outcome as babies are unpredictable and cannot be forced to perform. Every effort will be made to soothe your baby and having photographed babies for over ten years I have some tricks up my sleeve! If your baby decides not to sleep, I’ll still be able to capture beautiful images for you to cherish. My studio is a stress-free zone! Babies pick up on anxiety and stress and will be more difficult to soothe. I promote calm and cuddles and with soothing music your baby will feel safe and comfortable.
Why is a newborn photoshoot 3 hours?
Firstly, I allow baby to lead the photoshoot and everything will be done at their pace and to their comfort. I allow plenty of time to settle the baby, change, feed, dress, cuddle and ensure baby is comfortable at all times. Sometimes it can take a while for baby to fall asleep but once they do then the magic happens, and I will capture beautiful photos for you to keep forever!
What if my baby has flaky skin or baby acne?
Almost all newborn baby’s have some flaky skin, editing can reduce the visibility of this, especially on the baby’s face. If the baby has extreme flaky skin, or baby has baby acne, please send me a photo before the photoshoot. If there are patches this should not be a problem to go ahead as planned, however if baby has extreme acne it may be better to postpone the photoshoot to a later date.

What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or rearrange your photoshoot I need a minimum of 48 hours’ notice. There is no guarantee I will be able to fit you in soon after your original photoshoot. I will endeavour to do my best and will treat extreme circumstances at my discretion.
After your photoshoot
You will receive an email when your gallery is ready and a separate email with a unique password to access your gallery.
